Three Images


MemorialImage Description: A hill dotted with sparse shrubbery and radio towers photographed from a path, whose chrome handrails are visible, casting narrow shadows across the dirt in the bottom right corner. A building is barely present at the top of the hill, which slopes from the left to the right side of the image. A cement structure reminiscent of a highway overpass cuts horizontally across the top of the photograph, the right side mostly in shadow. The color of the sky, a reddish purple gradient, tints the entirety of the image, lending it a surreal quality. SugarcaneImage Description: Tinted a vivid green and blue with cool undertones, this photograph is comprised almost entirely of the leaves and stem of a sugarcane plant. Behind the sharp foreground of the plant, which is photographed from below, grass and sky are visible, with a tree almost entirely out of focus in the background. Across the bottom of the image, below what looks to be either a road or a river, the greenery is tinged with violet accents. PotentialImage Description: Freshly washed vegetables sit atop a checked dishcloth on a wooden table, which cuts diagonally across the foreground. The vegetables—three bell peppers, two cucumbers, an eggplant, and two root vegetables—are the most sharply in focus. In the top left corner, linoleum tiles are visible through what appears to be a railing. The image is tinted a cool blue-green, almost neon, rendering the eggplant a bright violet and the root vegetables a dark, inky blue. Like the other photographs in this triptych, the cool toned saturation makes for a surreal visual impression.
