Submit to the journal
Qui Parle invites submissions of essays and book reviews from a range of fields, including but not limited to literary and cultural studies, critical theory, aesthetics, religion, political theory, gender and sexuality studies, critical race studies, anthropology, and philosophy. Part of our commitment to transdisciplinary scholarship is to publish work that is accessible to a wide range of scholarly readers. Submissions of standard research articles should be 7,000-11,000 words, including notes and references. We also accept reviews and occasionally other formats which may be shorter. All submissions not solicited by Qui Parle will be considered anonymously. Include your name only on the cover page. Submissions can be made through our manuscript portal.
Editorial Process
The majority of our submissions are unsolicited. These submissions are initially reviewed anonymously by 2-3 editorial board members who then vote on whether or not the submission will be read by the entire editorial board. Regardless of the board’s decision, commentary on all submissions will be provided to authors upon request. Please anticipate that the review process can take up to six months.
Style Guide
Please use the stylistic guidelines set forth in The Chicago Manual of Style. Please do not use the author-date convention. Underlining or italicization is preferred over boldface for emphasis. A detailed style guide is available here.
